"Fadeaway"

"Normality is not a word I understand at all." It's also a word I DON'T want to understand. I see "normal" people everyday, living a life of "quiet desperation". Hating their jobs or their families but unwilling to break away from what is familiar. I see "normal" people controlled by a corporate society that tells them what to wear, what to eat, how to live, what will make them complete, and what to think. I see "normal" people accept what they hear as the truth, without any skepticism or doubt. I see "normal" people living even more miserable lives than my own because they do what they are told to do, without question. I see "normal" people as drones.

"I am my one and only friend, I am my worst enemy. I find new methods to pretend that this is not reality." We all do this. My methods include reading, listening to music, writing, drinking, and smoking. (just to name a few) Other methods include religion, the company of friends,careers, money, family....there are too many to mention, but they don't apply to everyone. (Though people think their version of God is for everyone, and we should all stop searching follow their version of the "truth". My version of the "truth" is no more absolute than their version of the "truth".) We all distract ourselves from our empty lives. Do you really think you make a difference in this world? Do you really think your life caries some sort of significance? Do you think anyone will give a shit about your accomplishments in 100 years? If Copernicus was never born someone else would have discovered the Earth revolves around the sun. Distractions keep us from going insane. I am my best friend and my worst enemy because I know myself better than anyone else can. This reality is cold and inhuman. It is unforgiving and fake. It is neutral and pointless. I find myself disgusted with this world, and with myself for being a part of it. I suck it up, and I move on.....but I'm still disgusted.
